Who is a ‘Canary’?

A Canary could be a tour guide, a local, someone with a special talent, a person who is passionate about their community, an expert at something, or a teacher.

What is an activity? I’m not sure I get it. I’m a pro chess player, run a surf camp on the side, and know all the best food stalls in Chinatown. Should I upload those as activities?

These are perfect activities for CanaryHop! An activity is anything you’re good at that you want to teach someone or a cool place you can show or share with someone.

How much does it cost to list an activity?

It’s free to list activities so upload as many as you like.

How long does it take to upload an activity?

Depending on how computer savvy you are, it will only take you 5 to 8 minutes per activity.

Do I need to have photos for my activity?

Yes all activities require photos before they are approved and active on our site. Photos (landscape please!) and videos (we highly recommend!) will attract more Hoppers to your listing and lead to more bookings!

What do i charge?

One of the exciting things about CanaryHop is you are in charge! You decide what you’d like to show or share with someone, when you are available to host the activity, and how much you’d like to charge. When uploading your activity, under "Description", you have the option of choosing the number of people you will host- a large group or a few people. Under "Terms and Pricing", you also have the freedom to charge whatever you like- a flat group rate, a flat rate per person, or hourly by group or person. It's completely up to you!

Am I supposed to provide transportation?

It’s up to you. You decide if you will provide transportation in your own vehicle, meet at the activity location, use public transport, or walk.

Can I list an activity for my business?

CanaryHop profiles hosts & guides not businesses. It is against our policy to allow for any company advertising or branding on the site. We do, however, encourage business owners/staff to upload activities as individual guides.

How do I edit my profile information?

Make sure you are signed in, then click on, “my account” in the upper right corner of the page. On the next page, click on, “my account” in the center of the page. From here you will easily be able to edit your profile information, update your password or payment preference.

How do I make changes to an activity I listed?

Make sure you are signed in, then click on, “my account” in the upper right corner of the page. On the next page, click on, “my experiences” in the center of the page. You will see a list of the activities you have uploaded. Click on the one you’d like to edit and make whatever changes you like. Don’t forget to click, “save” at the bottom of the page!

Do I have to pay anything if I am a Canary?

There is no fee to list an experience on CanaryHop, list as many as you like! We only charge a 15% fee when your activity is booked.

When do I get paid?

Within 24 hours after you have hosted your activity, we will cash you out.

How do I get featured on the CanaryHop homepage?

Make your activity AWESOME. Seriously though, your activity doesn’t have to be flashy and mindblowing, just have great quality photos and a good description of what you are offering. Imagine the kind of listing that would catch your eye! We change the featured activities several times a month so keep looking as you may be featured soon!

Who is a ‘Hopper’?

A Hopper is a traveler, someone wanting to try something new in their own city, or a person who wants to learn a new hobby, try something different, or experience a new culture.

What do I do if I need to cancel an activity I have booked?

Sign in and go to your dashboard under “my account.” Your will see your recent orders and you click the “cancel” button. An email notification will then be sent to you.

Can I ask questions about the activities directly to the Canaries?

Yes. You will be able to communicate via our internal messaging system prior to booking an activity. We strongly encourage this communication so you have a clear understanding of what the activity offers and to make you feel comfortable with the Canary you will be spending the day with.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently accept payments via Paypal.

Will the Canary ask me for money when I arrive for my activity?

No. All payments are handled electronically. If a Canary does ask you for money, please contact our customer service team.

Who are the Canaries?

A Canary is anyone who wants to show or share an activity. We have some Canaries who are tour guides as a profession, and some passionate locals who simply want to show you what they love about their town. After you enjoy your experience as a Hopper, maybe you’ll become a Canary too and post an activity of your own!

I forgot my password. How do I sign in?

It happens to the best of us. Go to the sign in page and click on, “forgot my password”. Enter your email address and we’ll send you a message to reset it!

What kinds of activities does CanaryHop offer?

You will find so many different types of activity on our site. You will find lessons for cool things like guitar playing and surfing, great tours of places around the world like China and New Zealand, and interesting and fun daytime activities like a pizza tour in Chicago or a Ghost Walk in London. Rest assured, there are plenty of activities for the super active or those who want to take it easy.

Do I have to pay anything if I am a Hopper?

The only fee you pay is a 3% processing fee based on the listed price of the activity.

I found an activity I want to book, now what happens?

Submit your payment details and await an email from us confirming your booking.
