Safety Tips for the Canary

Ok, so you love your hometown and have uploaded a cool activity to CanaryHop.com. You’re looking forward to giving someone a tour and making some extra cash...  but how can you be sure the guest is on the up and up? We totally understand your concerns and have some safety tips and suggestions below...

  • Be very clear and precise in the description of your activity so the Hopper isn’t misled as to what you are offering.

  • Use our messaging system to ask questions of the potential Hopper. Whether your activity lasts 1 hour or all day, you want to make sure you feel comfortable with this person/group!

  • Keep your personal contact details private until after the Hopper books your activity.

  • You have the right to refuse a booking.

  • Meet in a public place and agree in advance where your meeting and drop off spots will be.

  • If at any time during the tour you feel unsafe, you have the right to stop the tour. If this happens, contact our Customer Service team.

  • What about that extra cash you looked forward to making? Hoppers' credit card details are verified and payment is held securely by us. You will receive your money 24 hours after the activity. Hey, we have to protect the Hopper too in case you’re the weirdo! No worries though, if the Hopper is a no show or egregiously late, you’ll still receive full payment.

Safety Tips for the Hopper

You just discovered CanaryHop.com and are super excited to book an activity! Two things are on your mind…booking a Pizza Tour in Chicago and learning to surf in Bali…and wait, oh yeah, who is this stranger who will be my host?? We get it, and want you to know your safety is of paramount concern to us. Check out our suggestions and safety tips below...

  • We're sure everyone is looking for the same thing - a fun activity with hopefully a new friend, but to ensure your safety, we've Facebook verified our Canaries when possible.

  • Remember, all of your friends were strangers at one point too! That’s why we created an on-site messaging system so you can get to know your Canary. We highly recommend communicating in advance of booking, so you can ask questions about the activity and host.

  • We want you to have fun and feel comfortable, so our Canaries have uploaded profile pictures and in most cases videos of themselves. If your Canary doesn’t have a video, feel free to message them and ask for one! Also, read the reviews other Hoppers have provided to get an idea of what to expect of your host and the activity.

  • If you are customizing your tour, be clear and confirm the itinerary with your Canary to ensure you get what you are expecting.

  • Keep your personal contact details private until after the booking is confirmed.

  • Keep your personal accommodation details private. Meet in a public place and agree in advance where your meeting and drop off spots will be.

  • If at any time during the tour you feel unsafe, you have the right to stop the tour. If this happens, contact our Customer Service team.

  • You’ve already booked the activity and CanaryHop has your credit card/paypal details. So what if the guide cancels or doesn’t show? While totally uncool of the host, CanaryHop will promptly refund your deposit in full.
